Andy Suominen, senior engineer for the company was being forced to postpone deliveries due to their existing fork truck no longer being up to the job and needed to urgently replace it with something safe and reliable. A more compact size truck was also on Andy’s wish list as space is a premium within the warehouse.

A meeting was held with West Mercia’s David Stanley on Wednesday 10th December. A deal was struck, including disposal of their old truck and a brand new Doosan G18S-5 was delivered exactly seven days later. The short chassis gas truck was very well received and the operators were delighted with the ease of operation and additional features such as the clever “award winning” rear grab bar with integral horn.

Andy commented “we were left in the lurch by the failure of our old fork truck and needed a replacement truck asap. David and the team at West Mercia managed to deliver our fantastic new Doosan fork truck within a week when other suppliers had quoted me a waiting time of around 10 weeks! What’s more, the new truck is so much more manoeuvrable and compact than the old truck. Christmas came early thanks to West Mercia!

West Mercia goes the extra “air” miles to provide the solution.

When you need a specialist fork truck who do you turn to?

That’s the question a high profile multi national business with a multi million pound manufacturing facility in Coventry recently  asked itself after having little success with other  fork truck suppliers in providing a solution or meeting their brief.

The company needed to handle expensive specialised tooling equipment brought in from Europe for installation onto multi million pound blow moulding machinery producing  in excess of 800,000 fuel systems a year for some of the automotive industries highest regarded car manufacturer’s.going extra to get forklift

The main requirement was for a gas powered fork truck to lift in excess of 8000kg at extended load centres, In essence a fork truck that could lift 12000kg on the same size chassis of as an 8 tonne truck in order that the physical size would also be practical. The forks also needed to be manufactured to fit a particular size transportation framework.

Following several visits to site to finalise the specification, West Mercia’s David Stanley took the challenge of finding the ideal machine and ensured the customer West Mercia would put the time and effort into finding the solution the right machine for the job.

After extensive searching in the UK with poor results, David expanded his search to mainland Europe. Having located the perfect truck in Germany, West Mercia arranged for their senior technical engineer and Service Manager, Glenn Draper, to fly out to fully inspect the truck prior to purchase. The truck was then shipped back to West Mercia to undergo the workshop programme specifically tailored to the customer’s requirements. This included additional safety features and site speed restriction to comply with the sites own regulations.

Upon final inspection and sign off by the customer, who commented “it’s even better than we thought it was going to be”, the truck was delivered to site to the delight of the operations team and the resident health and safety manager.

A new Royal diesel forklift truck to Coilco of Cannock

A new Forklift to Cannock CompanyWest Mercia are proud to announce the sale of a new Royal diesel forklift truck to Coilco of Cannock, Staffordshire, the area’s leading induction furnace service and repair engineers.

Joe Waclawski, a Director of  Coilco had been in the market for a new forklift for some time, but the trucks he had been offered by other companies  were either not suitable or not within his budget.

Joe commented “I was contacted by Jon Ball of west Mercia regarding the servicing of my material handling fleet, Jon and his Sales Director, Mark Pugh, came to see me and we discussed a repair I’d like carried out to my 5 ton truck. We then discussed the truck I was hiring. I mentioned that I’d looked into buying a truck, but everything I’d been presented with wasn’t suitable.

Jon and Mark listened to my requirements, and Jon went away and came back with various proposals. They gave me the option of lease purchase, which I hadn’t been offered before, and this made perfect financial sense for us.

With regards to the truck we are more than happy, we have maintained the same weight capacity but the new truck seems to have a much better turning circle and the side shift is going to be invaluable to us. Jon and Mark also advised me on fuel options, and we decided the diesel would be more advantageous to us, both as my other truck is diesel, but most importantly it’s going to save me money."

Jon Ball of West Mercia said “It’s been a real pleasure to deal with Joe, from the outset he was clear in what he wanted and this made our job easier. As with all customers who are looking at adding to their material handling fleet, we offered him a wide range of long term hire and purchasing options and we are pleased that he chose West Mercia”.

Telford’s only forklift truck company doubles its size

expansion inn telford

West Mercia Fork Trucks have doubled the size of their Telford operation at Halesfield 9 in Telford.

Having purchased the unit next door they have completely refurbished both the original unit and the new unit to effectively double both their workshop/warehouse space as well as their office space.

Depot Manager, Ben Pugh, said “The purchase of Unit C6 and the amalgamation of the two units has been fantastic for us, giving us lots more space in both the workshops and the offices. With the added benefit of the refurbishment work we now have large modern workshops and clean, spacy offices in which to work. We have already seen the benefit in terms of the amount of forklift trucks we can store in readiness for hire or sale. We can store these extra trucks without encroaching on our Engineer’s working areas so all round it has made us far more efficient”.

West Mercia were already the only forklift truck company in Telford and the largest in Shropshire but this expansion has given them an even bigger presence in the area. Shropshire Forklift depot expanding
